We cannot be silent! The Lex CEU, the law against civil society, the campaign against the EU, the war on the remnants of the free media, the advertising tax, and so on: in the past few months, the Hungarian government has waged war on the few independent institutions left in this country, and at the same time, waged war on our future.
Enough is enough! CEU should remain in Budapest, civil society should remain in Hungary, and Hungary should remain in the EU.
We have two choices: we can hide, staying at home or leave the country and wait to see what will happen, or we can take the direction of our fate in our own hands, lift our heads proudly, and stand together for Hungary’s future and for our own future.
Together we are strong!
The organizers of the recent protests have joined together to hold a common demonstration.
The Academic Freedom group, which organized the 80,000 strong demonstration on Kossuth tér and Nem Maradunk Csendben (We Won’t Stay Silent) group, which organized the 15,000 strong demo at Szabadsag tér, have joined together to host this event and unite the forces of all who would wish to resist the government’s recent moves.
Let us send a very clear message!
On May 26th, the deadline for the Hungarian government to answer the European Commission’s Formal Letter of Notice is up. Let us send a clear message to Budapest and Brussels, that we, as liberals and conservatives, as old and young, as citizens of Hungary, will continue to stand up for our freedoms!
Let us send all of them a very clear message: we are loud, we are many, and we are not afraid! We will not let them continue to rob our country and sell it to the highest bidder. We will not let them bury our next twenty, thirty, or who knows how many years!
Let’s join together, meet on May 21st in Budapest, across the country, and across the world, and show the government our true strength!
Details soon to follow!
